The Algorithmic Sea of Sameness
In the second half of my conversation with Lori Kirkland, Co-Founder of DeepHumanX, our focus shifts from discussing the effect of AI on creativity in the fashion industry to how AI will be used in business. It’s a timely discussion, as fashion companies wrestle with how to deploy AI and where it will drive the greatest impact. From merchandising and trend forecasting to responsible production and ethics, we get into a wide range of topics.

The Editor’s Impressions
Sameness vs. Differentiation. AI will allow merchants to pivot and tweak assortments mid-cycle rather than guessing nine months out. But as Lori points out, simply speeding up production to chase real-time trend data will inevitably lead to a sea of product sameness. The real winners in an AI-driven market won’t be the fastest copycats; they will be the creative entities that use a distinct human spark to pull themselves out of the automated noise. True differentiation will belong to those who anchor their brand values and designs in human emotion, clear brand codes, and distinct storytelling.
Values-Driven Prompting. AI is only as sustainable as the intentions behind it. When brands treat responsible production as a core value, they can use AI to audit their entire supply chain—from fabric sourcing to shipping—to actively brainstorm waste-reduction solutions. Crucially, streamlining these supply chains naturally eliminates redundancies, saving brands significant time and money.
Ethics and AI. AI technology is evolving at a pace that traditional legal frameworks and governance cannot match. Since official regulations don’t fully exist yet, the burden of ethical use falls squarely on personal and brand accountability. Ultimately, creators who align their technology use with genuine human beliefs produce better creative energy and build healthier, happier organizational cultures.
