Three Things I’m Shopping
Spring has arrived a little ahead of schedule here in Denver—we’ve barely had a proper winter—which makes getting dressed feel a bit like a guessing game. It’s that strange seasonal limbo where you’re never quite sure which climate you’re shopping for. This is where transitional pieces become the real heroes of your wardrobe; they offer the flexibility to layer up or strip back as the weather dictates.
As I consider my closet’s weak points, these three pieces feel like smart, long-term investments for this "early-ish" spring season:
Feminine Denim
Denim hasn’t been an exciting category for my closet lately, but this season’s feminine trend has caught my attention. From bows and lace to fringe and peplums, denim is being embellished with ladylike accents and cut in feminine silhouettes. For me, the Vivienne Westwood faded denim jacket is more my vibe with its minimal decoration, but a maximalist piece like the Zimmerman denim and lace blouse with full sleeve would be a lovely addition to the right wardrobe.

Vivienne Westwood “Stormy” faded denim jacket, $1,120, MyTheresa. A Golde peplum straight jeans, $390, MyTheresa. Magda Butrym gathered denim minidress, $1,255, MyTheresa. Zimmerman “Awaken” lace-trimmed denim shirt, $725, MyTheresa.
The Sculptural Belt
After the ‘aughts over-exposure of logo belts—no one could escape Instagram images of people wearing their Gucci GG and Hermès’ H belts—this accessory kind of fell off everyone’s radar. But over the last season or so, as creative directors continue to explore feminine shapes and details, they have revived interest in the waist, resulting in the great belt comeback. I say skip the logo belt, as well as basic styles—you can buy a classic leather belt from Banana Republic—and instead invest in one with a sculptural buckle.
Clockwise from upper left: Jacquemus “Salon” belt, $420, Net-A-Porter. Cult Gaia “Izara” belt, $248, Shopbop. Déhanche “Brancusi” belt, $450, Déhanche. TSATSAS “Anis” belt, $455, TSATSAS. Bottega Veneta “Knot” belt, $550, Bottega Veneta. Khaite “Lucca” belt, $720, Khaite. Amanu “The Grumeti” belt, $295, Saint Bernard.
The Cropped Trench
Back in December, I wrote about being on the hunt for a functional trench coat. While I’m still looking for the right piece, a more trend-driven option is this season’s cropped trench jacket. Several labels have chic iterations of the cropped trench, but my personal favorite is by S.S. Daley. For a functional version at a more approachable price, I like the Sézane “Bobby” jacket for its easy shape, checked lining and water-repellent fabric.

Sacai trench bomber crop jacket, $1,420, Saks Fifth Avenue. Weekend Max Mara cropped water-repellent trench coat, $775, Max Mara. Burberry cropped “Mayfair” trench jacket, $2,050, Burberry.
